How do I correct for inaccurate Foursquare Data?

If you discover inaccurate information in a Foursquare record, please submit the corrections as new records, including all of the required attributes. Your accurate contribution will be added to the existing record and should outvote most inaccurate values. If you don't provide enough attributes, we may not be able to make the proper correction. Of course, please make sure that the correct contribution persists in your future submissions.


Can I get a pull of current Foursquare data for my business? I want to check for duplicates and closed locations in the data.

Listing syndicators should utilize the Foursquare API to read Places data they want to review.


When can I expect to see my data live in Foursquare's data?

At this time, the data will be incorporated in the next relevant data build, which usually happens once a month. We expect to ramp this cadence in late Q4 2020.


Can you notify me when my data goes live?

Due to the large amount of data Foursquare is ingesting, we do not send notifications when data goes live.


How do we select a category ID? Can we submit multiple category IDs per record?

During this interim period while we are integrating Factual and Foursquare data, please use the legacy Factual category taxonomy to choose the appropriate category IDs for your contributions. We currently accept multiple categories per record. The correct format should be a series of numbers separated by comma.

How do I format hours of operation in JSON for file submissions?:

For flat file submissions to Foursquare, hours of operation in JSON should use day of the week as the keys and hours as the values. Hours should be in 24 hours and day should be the three letter abbreviation for the day of the week:

  • dayOfWeek: Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri or Sat
  • hh: Stands for the hour that ranges from 0 to 23
  • mm: Stands for the minutes that range from 0 to 59

  • The opening hour is 9:00 (9 am).
  • The closing hour is 18:00 (6 pm).

What happens to the “extra” fields that I provide that are not included in Foursquare's schemas?

Foursquare will only surface data attributes which are listed in our schemas. Additional data is kept in a raw format and potentially used as metadata. It does not hurt to contribute this extra data; we will surface that data if the particular attribute is added to our schema in the future.


Does Foursquare accept businesses with unlisted address or lat/lng data?

Foursquare data is intended for use in a local search context. All places must be identified to a real postal address, which will be publicly visible.

My API access stopped working. I'm seeing a 403 User Not Authorized error.

Most likely this is because your edits have not followed to our rules and guidelines. It is very liekly that your user has been flagged in our system and disabled from submitting edits. This results in a 403 User Not Authorized response when your user tries to push an edit. You can find more details about why this might happen in our Rules and Guidelines.


Does my OAuth token expire?

Your OAuth token does not have an expiration, but can be invalidated. If that happens, you will have to go through the OAuth flow again to obtain a new token to use.
